Keeping up to date in the music race....

It seems more than ever that the industry is always changing, but how to keep track

of the latest trends is possible if you follow a few simple rules.

1) Keeping true to your core product but don’t be afraid to diversify your platform, simply put in any type of business you want to follow the trends

of how people are purchasing and develop your platforms along with technologies, and always clean house. For instance when the internet became

personal people started purchasing online more and more shifting sales into that emerging marketplace, the same should be said about the cellphone

platform as well.

2) Look at way’s you can improve customer service and incentive for others when looking at your owns sales. These qualities become very valuable

when it comes to an industry that is heavily saturated.

3) Looking at other industries and how they are doing will greatly increase you knowledge on what is about to happen in your industry. We all live

in a domino effect economy, so by staying up to date with what is happening in other industry is key to seeing how market conditions will shift.

Twenty-one years ago, Clarence Couisan established

C.C. Productions Incorporation, a booking and promoting

Recording Label that was designed to serve a wide

range of artists. Over the years, we have produced artists

like Barbara Anderson, Victor Varnado, and Dr. M.T.

Thompson, booked artists such as, Sister Katie Sankey,

the Clark Sisters, the Winans, and Barbara Lynn. In its

first year in 1984, C.C. Productions booked, promoted,

and recorded a Country and Western record titled:

A Day Full of Sunshine by the artist named Barbara

Anderson. Also, promoted Victor Varnado Rhythm &

Blues album titled: Feel So Good. In that same year

promoted and booked shows for Sister Katie Sankey

and Barbara Anderson at Center Hope Community

Church in Oakland, California and Double Rock Baptist

Church in San Francisco, California. In the early 1990s,

Moonlite Hope Music recorded their first gospel record

by Dr. M. T. Thompson, titled: Ask God at Berkeley

Mount Zion Baptist Church in Berkeley, California.

The 1990s was a booming decade, which included the

booking of the Clark Sisters and the Winans, a female and

male gospel group, respectively. The Clark Sisters first

appearance was at the Berkeley Community Theatre in

Berkeley, California and the Winans appeared at Center of

Hope Community Church in Oakland, California. In the

mid 1990s, Moonlite Hope Music booked and promoted Dr.

M.T. Thompson at Dr. Fleetwood Irvin Baptist Church in

Vallejo, California and in Fresno, California. In 1995 and

1996, Moonlite Hope Music booked Barbara Lynn, an R

& B singer in Louisiana, album titled: If You Lose, You

Lose a Good Thing. In the early 1990s, C.C. Productions

promoted a play called Zetta written by Mr. Z. Evans

at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California.

Moonlite Hope Music has worked with numerous

radio DJ’s, such as, the late Al Marlon a former gospel

DJ, Dorothy Stanton a DJ for KDIA, Emmett Powell

a DJ of San Francisco, and Sheila Robinson a DJ at

KISS FM radio station in San Francisco, California.

N.I.N.E

Networking In Neighborhoods Everywhere

Shiftkit has experienced collisions that have elevated him

overtime. Since his last article with MDI, Shiftkit has started his

personal music show for artist looking for events and interviews.

The N.I.N.E. compilations have opened many connection for

artist that need exposure. Being injured after returning from

Washington DC, recovery is a duty that has impacted his wife and

kids with an experience for life.

Since his bullet injury to the head he has learned how to

establish a music show for artist giving them the support to

higher steps. Shiftkit is all about assisting others with the right

conversation and information to show teamwork with others

where many don’t touch a support structure to elevate youth. The

essence of a great wife and graphics artist has insured Shiftkit

with visual recognition by others for others. With so much

advertisement, many are in competition with each other from

his view. So from the need that many are expecting from show

recognitions, he opens the door so many can find safe ground to

support each other.

Blessed with the development of others growing, Shiftkit has

felt an ease being out the so called “REAL NIGGA” perception

or expectation of others. “My focus is to clarify my mistakes and

support others who know the difference between soul security

and security soul. Influencing those in poetry and short stories,

with the art done by LBH Dezines Art, Shiftkit has shown

his support with The Shiftkit Show featuring artist out of his

community and supporting Emmanuel Christ who teamed up

with Ryan Brown and came to the West Coast to market the

growth of Musicthatpays.com.

Shiftkit has encountered many shows and artist. One of the

main directions Shiftkit is supporting has come from the schools

shutting down music classes leaving students a lack of team work

and communication development to educate those to come. “I

have to say that I put out 1st to 5th for the perception that was

inevitable. To live after my impact is enough to know the lesson

and the blessing. That realization to the moment I’m speaking

and typing this so much responsibility is in the works; it takes

mathematics to broaden others ease of treasures locked inside

them. Frustration is a reality we live. I learned that we will face

many frustrating moment with those close with my wife and I.

Thanks to Music That Pays I have lead others to the magazine

and distribution access which keeps the artist evolving such

as “Tay Money” a young high energy artist performing and

promoting others. “Crimino” is a blessing to me being he is the

first Hip Hop artist signed to music contract. With others around

and connecting to MusicThatPays, Shiftkit has learned to support

his Wife’s company (LBH Dezines Art) and tie a loose link with

music artist. With an art company and music show for artist

around the world being connected to MusicThatPays was the best

outlet. I feel honored to be in an historic growth without abusing

the greatness Mussicthatpays.com has opened for me and others

that I have connected to MDI.

My best time was in Washing DC when it was just Ryan and I.

It was my first time in that area and I was confident. I met others

who respected the information I provided, giving more outlets to

connect and develop with.

The Network In Neighborhoods Everywhere was only a seed

when I met Ryan and since that time I have mentally grown

to a point of having outlets that everyone enjoys in the winter

and summer all the same. Now changing my life after the

injury without returning to life with a vengeance broadened my

ambition to give and even grow.

The Sun gives us energy in many ways not thought but

accepted if learned. We all need to grow for the better, with

music be the soothing needed for easing the process. For the

days to come we must teach a sound that is understood and

enjoyed to a point that the youth will gain and give to those to

come. Continuously delivering heavy tension limits the sound of

the artist and the company itself. True music is form the heart.

Pain is something we know as fathers. Others know it from

being without one and accepting things not being spoken, accept

through music release. My music is ME. Thanks to many I have

learned the blessings in multiple ways. A true blessing is the

artwork by my wife. Over all she is the QUEEN! I am only a

King by privilege!

Consistency builds value....don’t ever give up.....

I came across an old chart that was given to me by a dear friend. I though to myself WOW! this is an amazing tool for breaking down

how to obtain what you want in life....are you ready for it?

Vision + Skills + Incentives + Resources + Action Plan = Manifestation

I love this simple yet highly effective principal and we use it everyday at our offices. The key is not to look as your only self in this

equation, but challenging yourself to look around you at the opportunities that are around you. Also the biggest realization is that

money or materialistic are not the biggest incentives, we are all people of feeling and when something feels right most of the time that

is incentive enough, it is our challenge to create these incentives for others. You may be asking yourself “I thought that consistency

builds value, was the point of this conversation”? It is! By consistently doing something than people look to those things as a part of

habit. When we look at this model we are now able to put solid plans in place with people who will challenge themselves to improve the

project because all the right tools are in place to move forward with the design.

The Peace Fund

The PEACE Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) ‘not for profit’ charity

founded by the actor, Adrian Paul. The PEACE Fund focuses

on small, under-funded and hard-working charities that are determined

to make a positive difference to the lives of children living

in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. The words Protect,

Educate and Aid are the focus of The Peace Fund’s goals.

Adrian Paul may be known most for his roles on television and

in film, but he believes in using that spotlight to raise awareness

of solutions to the world’s problems. He is constantly participating

in celebrity events to help charity organizations, with his new

project Celebs 4 Kids he sets out to prove that there are those

out there who are listening and that can do something about the

issues. Music Distribution Inc has partnered with The Peace Fund

to put together a compilation album that features some of today’s

hottest musicians; this album will help to generate donations for

multiple organizations such as.

Mercy and Sharing

Mercy & Sharing is a U.S. based non-profit organization providing

care and education to abandoned, orphaned, and disabled

children in Haiti since 1994. They maintain a reputation for excellence

via community-based programming designed to provide

comprehensive care until the children become independent and

thriving.

Only 5% of the approximately 400,000 disabled children

and young adults in Haiti are enrolled in educational or therapy

programs. Mercy & Sharing’s skilled staff works hard to nurse

the children they help back to health by providing food, shelter,

education and, most importantly, a loving environment that builds

character and integrity.

Mercy & Sharing believes the solutions to Haiti’s social, political,

and economic problems already exist within its children. And

so they equip them with the tools and skills they need to become

productive, responsible citizens.

The organization continues to grow steadily and now serves

more than 5000 people. They have created jobs for Haitians for

17 years, contributing over $16 million to the Haitian economy.

They employ over 210 Haitian nationals in jobs serving as

teachers, doctors, nurses, therapists, “mothers” (continuous child

care), building engineers, accountants, cooks, and cleaning staff.

Mercy & Sharing employed over 200 additional Haitians

during the construction of over $1.5 million in buildings and infrastructure

and another 50 Haitians to assist in removing rubble

and making repairs following the 2010 earthquake. In a nation

where unemployment reaches 80% in some areas, Mercy & Sharing

employees are able to care for their families and have a vision

for the future. It’s a vision that begins with the kids, and that’s

why they need your help to keep these children’s dreams alive.

Mercy and Sharing’s projects

Located in the Cazeau region of Port-au-Prince near the airport,

the John Branchizio School was recently recognized as one of the

top five schools in its region. 513 students are enrolled in primary

and secondary education that includes a hot meal everyday. Science,

math, geography, history, languages, and life skills form a

rigorous curriculum that challenges the students from 8:00 am to

3:30 pm each day. 98% of the children at John Branchizio passed

the State Exam (compared to the national average of 40%).

Village at Williamson

Mercy & Sharing Village at Williamson is a 17-acre tract of

land owned by Mercy & Sharing and located approximately 40

miles northwest of Port-au-Prince.

The campus includes three residential care buildings (housing

115 orphans), two school buildings, a chapel building with office

space, a generator building, a guard tower, security gate with

perimeter security walls, and two water wells. A 10,000-gallonper-

day water filtration system is open to the community daily.

Additions in 2011 to the Williamson campus include the

Rehabilitation and Therapy Center and the Technical and Trade

School. The Rehabilitation and Therapy Center will enable disabled

children and young adults from the orphanage to have the

best physical, occupational, and speech therapy available. The

Technical and Trade School will provide vocational training for

young adults in sewing, agriculture, auto mechanics, small business

management, and computer science. This vocational training

specifically targets skills needed to find employment in Haiti.

.

C.I.T.E. School

Located in the same vicinity where Mercy & Sharing began in

1994, C.I.T.E. School is a lighthouse of the hope and opportunity

shining in the slums of Port-au-Prince. Providing education and

a nutritious meal every day to 187 students in grades 1-7, C.I.T.E.

School is preparing children to be productive citizens. The school

recently moved to a new location to provide more space and a

better learning environment. New programs at C.I.T.E School

include evening adult literacy classes and children’s dance and

basketball classes.

Feeding programs

Mercy & Sharing operates a daily feeding program in two very

poor communities in the northern Haiti region of Cap-Hatien.

Children, elderly, and disabled residents of Paulette and Phaeton

gather daily at noon for a hot meal consisting of vegetables, dry

fish, corn, rice, and beans. The cooks serve over 1000 people

each day who have traveled on foot from 10 local districts. Limited

access by ID cards ensures food is given to those most in need.

Mercy and Sharing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation.

All donations are tax deductible

LTA Records

LTA Records has been a prominent record label in the

Salt Lake City for quite some time now. Its operation has

spanned into a global wide presence. Focusing on Party

Music, Tech-Hop,Cross Over Rhythm, Pop, Reggaeton and

Top 40 they deliver a quality feel good music that can be

heard in the club as well as on the radio with their commercial

hits. The latest artist such as Lazy Boy and Big Flipps

are breaking ground in the Hip Hop/ Dance Global style of

music while the LTA RNB section is staying true to making

timeless music. We sat down with LTA records founder Big

A to get some insider information on how they make their

label work.

(Q) What got you into making and creating your music

in the first place?

(A) I had to replace my old “life of crime” and with

music it has always been in my blood, so it seemed to be

a natural fit. My mother was a professional opera singer

so music has always been a constant throughout my whole

life. I just began messing around with friends inside a closet

studio one day, and wrote a song, recorded it and discovered

at that moment that music was going to be a huge part

of my life.

(Q) What steps did you take when getting your music

out there? Also where do you see the evolution of your

music’s marketing?

(A) I had invested into making 5000 hard copies of my

first album titled “This is what I do” and gave them away

for free at my shows, my store, and on the streets. This is

how I initially created a fan base, by showing love to my

city and getting that music bumping in CD players and

internet everywhere. It may cost a little money but I believe

its well worth the investment because of the type of support

that you receive back. I see the evolution of the of the

music marketing world working more and more on social

networking platforms. Our label has a great following on-

line and I believe this is where we will continue to market

our music the most at.

(Q) How did LTA come about? Who are some of its

artists to watch out for?

(A) The evolution of how the label came about is; I started

the label in 07, and really stepped up the production and

marketing with the projects that we were already doing, this

would help to form the foundation of how we worked with

artists in the future. I believe a key to our success is just by

doing our own thing. We don’t copy any other musician’s

style, for instance I always written “real songs” meaning

I don’t rap or sing about things that I don’t really have or

things that I haven’t experienced. Some of the artists on our

label to watch out for are Lazy Boy and Big Flipps, with hit

new singles along with me.

(Q) What is important when building a label?

(A) A good structure, organization, working with real

professionals in the industry, and of course working with

talented artists that can really perform.

(Q) What are some of the causes that you support

with your community? and why do you support them

with your label?

(A) LTA Records constantly helps to run food and clothing

drives, we often times perform at red carpet events

sponsored by nonprofit organizations like The Guard a

Heart Foundation and www.churchontheair.com. As long as

I support everyone in my community than they will support

me back.

(Q) With all the conversation going on about more

and more independent artists making their own way to

success in the industry, where do you see the business

fitting in with this culture change?

(A) It’s all about marketing and having the money to

back it. So I believe that as an independent artist you can

make it happen with the right plan. Here is my equation, a

great song + a top notch music video + powerful marketing

plan with money to back it = the best chance an independent

artist has.

DJ WILD WAYNE

“Real Rap is the term used by me to describe what I do. I feel like

there are millions of rappers but only a few that do it from the

heart. Life is real, music should be too.” - Gully

Q 9 3 C l e a r C h a nne l New Orleans, LA

Wild Wayne (Wayne Benjamin) epitomizes New Orleans. For

more than 20 years, as a radio personality, humanitarian and

philanthropist, he has committed his life to the city and its entertainment

industry. His infectious personality and unique delivery,

as a DJ on Clear Channel New Orleans’ Q93, has made him a

nationally recognized: entertainment personality, community

leader and New Orleans icon. In 2013, The Source Magazine

named Wild Wayne as one of the Top 30 DJ’s in the country for

the third consecutive year. Most recently, during the 2014 NBA

All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, Wild Wayne was recognized

as a Slam Dunk Honoree at the 9th Annual All-Star Gospel Celebration

and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at

the first annual, All-Star Music Experience.

In 2013 he participated in the White House Youth Summit, a

briefing and discussion with Senior White House and Adminis

tration Officials about issues affecting young Americans and the

Affordable Care Act. Additionally, his philanthropic organization

founded in 2000, The Benjamin Foundation, sponsors an annual

free summer camp for inner city New Orleans’ youth. The Wild

Wayne Summer Experience promotes citizenship, education,

culture, sports and technology. Wayne states, “Get educated!

Children have more opportunities when they are well-rounded

and exposed to different cultural experiences. Our goal is to help

them to make better choices at a pivotal age.”

Wild Wayne has been instrumental in breaking some of the

music industries biggest artists including Lil’ Wayne, Birdman,

Master P, and Mystikal. He is also credited as the first on-air DJ

to play Bounce Music, New Orleans’ specialty brand mixture

of hip-hop and rap. He explained, “I fell into radio by accident,

thinking it was just going to be a job to get through college. But

I figured out that it was something that I loved.” He continues,

“What a lot of people don’t know is that I initially went to Xavier

University for Biology-Premed. But my life kind of changed,

when on a whim, I decided to do radio, for what I always called

a job for extra books and beer money.” Wild Wayne’s intuitive

acumen for spotting musical talent also extends off-air, as the

creator of Industry Influence, a monthly entertainment seminar

for artists, musicians and entertainment professionals. The two

state event held in New Orleans, LA and Gulfport, MS, focuses

on music industry education, networking, and live performances.

Industry Influence’ events have presented major entertainers,

entertainment attorneys, publishing companies, and Grammy

representatives. Benjamin’s longevity and national recognition

are the results of herculean endurance, confidence and commitment.

He says, “Even with all the fun I’ve had and all the great

music I’ve supported and played, the real key to longevity is my

involvement in our community and in the lives of our children.

Community leadership and involvement are actions that I’ve

championed over the years and I’ve tried to keep it positive.”

Finally adding, “I keep reformulating things and reinventing

myself. It’s been amazing, the kind of longevity

I’ve been blessed with and I am humbled by the outcomes.”

Wild Wayne’s Day Party Show, can be heard on Q93 in New

Orleans and on iHeart Radio, weekdays from 2-7.
